Parliament of Things
Interesting project by Partizan Publik, an Amsterdam based design research collective. The Parliament of Things is a speculative research into the emancipation of animals and things. It acknowledges that mankind has reached the end of an anthropocentric world. We can no longer maintain the distorted dichotomy between culture and nature. We share this world with many. Law should not be centred around Men, but around Life. We are just one party, among all animals, plants and objects. What if we welcome all things into our Parliament? What would be the plight of the planet? The reasoning of a fish? What claims would trees make, and what future would oil see for itself?
I like how they approach such an abstract concept as a practical question by inviting experts to discuss their view on such a society. Step by step they are investigating how this would work, from various perspectives. I'm happy to see their many references to the work of Bruno Latour.
